Pet Spotlight: Gaming Rules!

In a small town in South West England lies the Gaming Rules! headquarters and home of Bramble. As the HR manager, she takes her job very seriously to keep Paul and the fish in line. While the table and games may be off limits, any chairs or puzzles are open for the taking. Bramble is a very loving and most of the time a super happy cat, never going far from home and loving the company of Paul & Vicky. However, her story is not completely a happy one; Bramble has been sick for some time and has used up more than her 9 lives. She is a mystery to the veterinarians.

Bramble has been a miracle and her spirit defies the odds. 5 years ago, she and her sister had kidney failure. While Bramble would be the only sister to survive, the illness severely damaged her kidneys. It was expected that her kidney levels would gradually rise until her kidneys could no longer cope. However, the levels gradually dropped. This was her first miracle, and something that only happens in approxiametly 2% of the cases.

Over the last year, things have gotten progressively worse for Bramble. She suffered kidney failure again, this time nearly dying in the process. The vets were able to save her, but explained, "no cat survives this a second time". Everyone expected her to deteriorate quickly, but she didn't. Week after week, month after month, she has been ok.

More recently, she has had kidney failure a third time, and Paul & Vicky prepared to say their goodbyes. And yet, with the help of other medication, she somehow carried on. But it was only a matter of time. One Monday night, Bramble was very unwell, showing all the signs of advanced kidney failure which Paul knew well. The vets said there is nothing that can be done, and this was heartbreaking.

2 days later, Bramble was outside, jumping around chasing butterflies. The vets continue to be baffled.

If it isn’t one thing, it is another. Paul’s mother recently passed away. As he travelled to the other end of the country to be with his dad, Vicky had to stay home to look after Bramble. The next day, Bramble was attacked by a new cat that had moved into the area. She was badly wounded and had to have stitches. Considering how fragile she is, any slight thing can send her kidney levels too high. After a very difficult 2 weeks with Bramble not coping well, the stitches came out and now things seems to have settled down again.

She continues to put up a fight, her spirits remain high and the Gaming Rules! family is happy for each day they have with her.
